Established in 1890, Yosemite National Park is well-known for its waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, scenic mountain views, and deep valleys.  Yosemite's magnificent landscape of nearly 1,200 square miles is the result of erosion by water and glaciers.  Famous for a stunning valley that is surrounded by towering cliffs, sheer walls, and marvelous granite domes, features like El Capitan and Half Dome or slowly peeling away in layers.  Yosemite is full of waterfalls, and Bridalveil, Yosemite, Nevada, and Vernal falls are easily accessible.  Giant sequoia trees can be seen in all of their grandeur at Mariposa Grove in the southern part of the park.  Some 500 trees remain today including Yosemite Sequoia, the fifth largest and oldest of the sequoias - about 3,000 years old!  In the high country, accessible by California Highway 120, is Tuolumne Meadows, the largest in the Sierra Mountain Range.  It's a mecca for campers and backpackers seeking the famous John Muir or Pacific Crest trails or any of the dozens of day hikes in the area.  Yosemite National Park has something for everyone.  It's a special place that will leave you in awe and with memories that remain for a lifetime.
